This is the last missive from me as President as the Rotary Year ends on 30 June. I am handing over to Anne, whose style will be different from mine, but in whose hands the club will be nurtured.
It has been a good year for me. The highlight was the ABBA tribute night which enabled us to donate further funds to worthy charities. We topped up our donation to Riding for the Disabled in Leybourne from £700 to £1000, which means that both my special charities got £1000 from the club this year. I am very grateful to my fellow Rotarians who put in the hard work to ensure that we were able to do that. In addition we donated £500 each to You Can (a local childhood cancer charity) and the Salvation Army and £1000 to the Kerala Cyclone disaster fund through the DEC. This reflects the aims of Rotary which are both local and international.
The year has been framed by the good will and willingness to help fund raise as well as having fun. One of the most memorable is the afternoon strawberry and cream tea at Past President William’s house. Many thanks to William and Rosemary for their hospitality. Presidents Night was a wonderful evening, put together by Past President Colin who sourced first class entertainment from Henry VIII. Who’d a thought it!? Our next fundraiser combines both fun and fundraising as it is a Murder Mystery evening in October. Keep your eyes on this website for further details.
Remember all are welcome at Rotary. Please contact us if you would like to come to a meeting. We are a friendly bunch who share a desire to put something back into our community.
